After donating, donors can choose how they’d like to receive communications. By selecting SMS, Womankind have received explicit permission to send them text messages. This means that they now have a database of people who they know are interested in and engaged with the charity, and are open to receiving communications by SMS.
After making a donation to Womankind, if the donor has requested to receive communications by SMS, a customised message is sent out as a thank you. Womankind take advantage of Textlocal’s custom fields to include both the donor’s name and donation amount in the message template, ensuring each message is personal to them.
Donors have been actively opting in to SMS rather than other forms of communication such as emails or post, showing that text messaging is preferred by many people. By including multiple options for communication, Womankind are also making their operations more user friendly.
The early success of this approach has led to plans for Womankind to use SMS to support volunteers and fundraisers at their events. Runners at the Royal Parks half marathon in October who are raising money for Womankind will be receiving text messages of encouragement prior to the run, helping to boost morale.
