The results are in – Liverpool has been revealed as the best city in the UK for sending and receiving text messages.
A new study by mobile researcher RootMetrics aimed to discover which UK cities were best served by mobile networks in terms of SMS, reliability, speed, voice calling, mobile internet and overall performance. Liverpool’s overall score of 94.6 was enough to secure it the top spot, broadbandchoices.co.uk reports.
Birmingham placed second with 94.1, followed by Manchester (93.5) and Belfast (93.3). Interestingly, the vast majority of the top ten cities for SMS were in the Midlands and the north, as Edinburgh, Coventry, Newcastle, and Nottingham were all among the best performers.
Hull, however, scored the worst in all six categories. Its score of 76.2 was just pipped by Bristol and Cardiff at the bottom of the table. London scraped into the top ten, placing ninth.
The report noted that, for those in Hull, these results aren’t necessarily surprising. The city’s residents have long noted that good speeds and reliability are challenging to find, regardless of operator.
RootMetrics general manager for Europe, Chris Smith, added: “Good mobile service is a crucial part of a city’s basic infrastructure. These rankings give a scientific indication of where in the country you are more likely to enjoy reliable mobile performance.”
